Pastor's Web Page - Summer 2010 . . .

Time flies.  You can’t.  They’re much too fast.

Time flies like an arrow.  Fruit flies like a banana.

Okay, so those are a few corny thoughts on time . . . which goes quickly.  We have already endured (or been blessed by) the hottest June on record, and have already been blessed by (or endured) a very full, hot week of Vacation Bible School, and all of a sudden the last Sunday of July is upon us.  Next week Kathy and I leave for a quick trip to the homeland of mosquitoes and lakes, family and friends.  Not long after that, Fall starts creeping up.  Teachers are right - the weeks of summer fly by with unusual speed.

Our summer pulpit series is on Old Testament stories.  We’ve covered Naaman and Elisha, Daniel at Babylon University, Ruth and Naomi, and Balaam and his donkey.  Up next is Elijah on Mt. Carmel, followed by the Fiery Furnace, Lion’s Den, Queen Esther, and maybe Jonah to wrap things up.  (Note: there is no service at Poole Mennonite on Aug. 8 - We will be joining the community service in Millbank that Sunday).

With summer services squared away, I’ve been working on thoughts for the Fall pulpit series.  I’ve put out the Sermon Suggestion Box to solicit ideas, as well as feedback on the idea of going through (parts of) Tim Keller’s book: The Reason for God.  Tim Keller is a Presbyterian minister in Manhattan, who has a extraordinary gift of articulating the gospel to the young professionals of New York City.  Now I know this isn’t exactly Poole’s demographic, but his clear reasoning on deep questions is most encouraging.  I’ve not done a book study like this before - we’ll see what comes of it.  Feel free to offer your suggestions and responses to me at: pauldyck@perth.net

A few dates to remember for Fall:

Sept. 12          Sunday School begins

Sept. 19          Community BBQ and Show and Shine Sunday

Oct. 17          Communion Service

Wishing you blessings and safe summer weeks,

Blessings

Paul
